When is Valentine's Day 2020?

Valentine’s Day is an emotional time of a year when people show their feelings of love, affection and friendship. It is celebrated worldwide and falls on February 14 each year. Valentine's Day 2020 will occur this date again and it will be on Thursday.

Every February 14, across the United States and in other places around the world, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. The Valentine's Day first became associated with romantic love within the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer, an English poet and author, in the 14th century, when the tradition of gentle love flourished. In 18th-century England, it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). Today, approximately 150 million Valentine's Day cards are exchanged annually, making Valentine's Day the second most popular card-sending holiday after Christmas.

When is Valentine’s Day 2020?

Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day, is celebrated on February 14 annually. Originating as a Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early saints named Valentinus, Valentine's Day is recognized as a significant cultural, religious and -of course -commercial celebration of romance and love in many countries around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country. Although there were several Christian martyrs named Valentine, according to a more common belief, the day may have taken its name from a priest who was martyred about 270 CE by the emperor Claudius II Gothicus. According to legend, the priest signed a letter “from your Valentine” to his jailer’s daughter, whom he had befriended and, by some accounts, healed from blindness. Other accounts hold that it was St. Valentine of Terni, a bishop, for whom the holiday was named, though it is possible the two saints were actually one person. Another common legend states that St. Valentine defied the emperor’s orders and secretly married couples to spare the husbands from war. It is for this reason that his feast day is associated with love.
